WinSCP, which stands for Windows Secure Copy, is an open source program used to copy files. It’s an FTP (file transfer protocol) and SFTP client that’s free for PC users. It also includes support for SCP protocols. Its main function is to copy files locally and securely transfer them to a remote server. The program can also work as a file manager and synchronize files.

The user interface of WinSCP is very clean and intuitive and is designed to be international, having been translated into nearly 40 languages so far. It integrates with your Windows OS to allows useful functions, like drag and drop and has an integrated text editor. The combination of FTP and text editor allows for remote text editing by selecting a text file at the remote location and transferring it to the local computer. You have the option of editing with other programs instead of the integrated text editor, of course.

As an added bonus, unlike traditional FTP clients, WinSCP is able to retain the meta information for uploaded files, like the original date and time stamp of the file.
